unsettling news - Maurey Johnson…

I received a call about a week ago from my sister-in-law informing me that a classmate from high school had passed away. His name was Maurey Johnson and he was in the year above mine (MHS year 1994). Additionally, he lived in a house just up the street from mine and I had known him basically from when I can remember. He was a really great guy - one of those people you might miss because he is so quiet, but missing him would be a loss for you as he always had a lot to offer when asked. He was very mild-mannered and soft-spoken.

I didn’t hang out with him much and wasn’t particularly close to him, but hearing about someone close to your age that you grew up with dying is unsettling as it really drives home the fact of our mortality.

Maurey’s family experienced a lot of trauma over the years (e.g., cancer, suicide, internicene marriages, etc.) and they are not a family deserving of such trauma.  They were always very considerate, even if they kept to themselves for the most part.  I wish his family the best… To Maurey and his memory.

What the Hell? What happened? I am in shock!!! Maurey was such a nice guy. I got to know him a bit through basketball. That is so sad. You are right, that is a family that has had an unfair amount of hard times.

I just read the obituary yesterday. I was totally shocked. I was Maurey and Natalie’s wedding photographer. I remember Maurey asking me to take a picture of his bride for him. That’s pretty rare, and I thought it was really sweet. I could tell they were a couple with exceptional devotion to each other. This is so incredibly unfair and sad.
