Ryan, Debi, and Toren Cragun's Blog

Here’s another shot from our trip to Clearwater to see the Scientologists:

Debi’s Mom, Rosemary (a.k.a. Grandmary; her dad, Gary, is “Grandgary” to the grandkids), flew in yesterday.  She’s visiting for about a week (I’ll take some photos while she’s here, but haven’t yet).  I just have to note that her knowledge of babies has already proven invaluable.  While I’ve been posting mostly cute pictures of Toren, the last few days he’s been very fussy – not colicky fussy, but fussy.  We suspected gas (we have a very gassy baby), but we weren’t sure and thought maybe he is just hungry (FYI – he’s now 9lbs 2oz per a pediatrician visit yesterday).  Feeding him seemed to help with the fussing, but he was spending all day at the breast that way.  Within an hour or so of arriving, Rosemary pointed out the difference between his hunger cry (arching his back, clenching his fists, kicking his legs, and tearing at his eyes) and his gas cry (pretty much just lays there and cries) and then proceeded to show us that just comforting when he is gassy will eventually get him to calm down.  We’re still working out the details, but it seems to be working.

I’m not really posting stuff when it happens; this shot is almost a week old…

I woke up on the 20th to take over from Debi and when I went to change Toren’s diaper, something was different: no umbilical cord.  It came off during the night on Debi’s watch.  I’ll snap a shot of his cute belly button at some point, but for now, here is the remnant of his connection to his mother:

A close second to eating in the hierarchy of things Toren loves is sleeping, but not just sleeping, sleeping on one of us.  Debi took a couple pictures of the heat leech on me the other day:

He had been sleeping there for a good hour at this point and I think slept here an hour more:

Does that kid look content or what?

As mentioned in a previous post, Toren’s usually asleep or in various stages of sleep (or closing his eyes when he poops).  So when he opened his eyes nice and wide the other day while I was reading him the news, I figured I had to take a picture:

As strange as it may seem, you know who I think Toren looks like?  His cousin Ethan Chard:
