Ryan and Debi & Toren

peek-a-boo

Sometimes I surprise myself by how slow I am to realize things…

I was sitting at my desk with Toren while Debi was at a doctor’s appointment. Toren was kind of happy so we were playing. I’m not all that well-schooled on games to play with babies, but I do know peek-a-boo (who doesn’t?). So, I started playing peek-a-boo with Toren. He was enjoying it and smiling…

Then it dawned on me – I bet the reason so many parents end up playing peek-a-boo is because it is directly tied to this stage of development. The baby can see and hear, but can’t do much more to interact with the caretaker. So, making yourself disappear is something the baby can react to. Thus, playing peek-a-boo is a developmentally appropriate game for a 2.25 month old child. Huh… Who knew?

Yep, I’m not always quick on the uptake…
