Debi’s work brought us to Prague for about nine days. She was busy for 6 of those days, leaving me to wander around on my own during much of the time. In this and subsequent posts, I’ll detail our/my adventures in Prague.
We arrived on a Saturday (5/13). Our flight landed at 10:00 am and we were at our AirBnB right next to the Franz Kafka rotating head by 11:00 am. They were still finishing cleaning the place when we arrived, so we headed out for lunch and found a place right on the Vltava River – Aperol Spritz Terrace Mánes Praha. The views were nice and the food was reasonably priced and quite good. On the way back we stopped at a grocery store to pick up some food.
Debi only had three days or so to see Prague, so we wanted to make the most of the time we had. That meant, despite being quite tired from the overnight flight, we headed out to see Prague. We used a self-guided walking tour from here. (Apologies for the link as the website is not very reliable and only works about half the time. We started at the Charles Bridge, then headed to the Piss Sculpture, which was our introduction to David Czerny‘s art (a new favorite artist). From there, we headed to Kampa Island to see some of David Czerny’s Crawling Babies. It was then a short walk to the Lennon Wall. We walked past the Church of St. Nicholas but decided not to go in. We also decided to skip Prague Castle and do that the next day as a full-day visit. From there we headed to Letna Park to see the Metronome that replaced the Stalin statue that was once there.

We then walked past the Rudolfinum, which is a beautiful building and the home of the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
The guide suggested we visit a number of Jewish sites, but it was Saturday and they were all closed. We were close to the Kafka Monument (Kafka riding a headless version of Kafka) so we stopped by there and then headed to the Old Town Square where we saw the Church of St. Nicholas, the Astronomical Clock, the Old Town Hall, the House at the Minute, the Storch House, the Jan Hus Monument, the House at the Stone Bell, and the Church of Our Lady before Tyn. It was getting late and we were exhausted, so we decided to call it a night and head back to our AirBnB.
